Our way to Casa de Almendra

Building a new life in another country is not something you do lightly. It is not a spontaneous decision, but a process in which emotion, trust and realism must come together. For us, it began with a dream, but it soon became clear that such a life-changing step requires proper guidance, time and the right people around you.

From the very beginning, we knew we had to be fully committed to this together. Not just rationally, but above all emotionally. It had to feel right. That is why we took our time. We researched, compared, observed and listened. We made multiple trips, viewed properties and consciously experienced all seasons. Only then do you truly get to know a place.

A place to come home to
What may be just as important in this process is having an address you can call home every time you fly or drive to Spain. A place where you are welcomed, without having to introduce yourself over and over again. A place where you can arrive, recharge, and gradually feel more and more part of the surroundings.

For us, those people are Dick and Evelien Vollebregt from Hondón de las Nieves. Every single time. Their hospitality, warmth and genuine involvement have not only made this journey easier, but also richer. That feeling of coming home is something we carry into everything AlmendraCasa will become.

A reliable real estate agent
The next crucial step was finding an estate agent who truly understood us. Someone who knows the Spanish market, but also understands how Dutch people think, search and make decisions — and can translate that into the Spanish context.

We found that person in Cindy from Immo MurciAlicante. A Dutch professional who speaks fluent Spanish, knows the local market inside out and has a keen sense of cultural differences. For us, she has been an indispensable link between vision and reality.

Choosing the right builder
Spain has many construction companies, and precisely for that reason this is an area that requires extra attention. We consciously avoided making a rushed decision. In the region, we asked around extensively, gathered experiences and listened carefully to people who had already built their homes.

Time and again, we heard the same feedback: high quality, reliable, thoughtful and pleasant to work with. Ultimately, we chose a local construction company with a strong reputation in the region: José Antonio Ruiz Marco – CONSTRUCCIONES Y CONTRATAS JOSÉ ANTONIO RUIZ S.L. from Abanilla (Macisvenda).

What a wonderful person, and what a professional company. Building is in his blood; his family and in-laws have been well known in the area for generations. You can feel that — in the way he works, communicates, and above all in the pride he takes in his craft.

Legal guidance that inspires confidence

One thing you absolutely cannot do without in a process like this is a reliable and experienced law firm. We deliberately looked for legal guidance that not only has in-depth knowledge of Spanish law, but also understands our Dutch background and speaks our language.

That is how we came into contact with Lana Robberecht of Despacho Jurídico Legal Iuris S.L. From the very first moment, we felt taken seriously, truly listened to, and professionally guided. Complex legal matters are explained clearly, agreements are carefully monitored, and every step is taken calmly and with confidence.

What gives us additional peace of mind is that Legal Iuris works with a team of several Dutch professionals. In addition to Lana, there are four other Dutch-speaking jurists and staff members active within the firm. This means there are always multiple contact persons available and continuity is ensured, even when someone is absent.

It is precisely this combination of expertise, clear communication, and a team that understands both our language and our situation that makes this firm feel highly reliable and pleasant to work with throughout the entire process.

Comfort as we experience it at home
Finally, something that feels very natural to us but is often underestimated: a good night’s sleep. In the Netherlands, we have been sleeping for years in a wonderful bed purchased from our local bedding specialist. That same level of comfort is something we want to offer our future guests.

That is why we have already purchased all the beds for AlmendraCasa from Vermaas Slaapcomfort. They will be specially transported to Spain, so our guests can enjoy the same sleeping comfort we are used to at home.

Everything has to feel right
Looking back, we can say that this journey has above all taught us how important it is not to force anything. The right feeling, the right people, and trust in experience — that is what has brought us to where we are today.

Casa de Almendra is not just a place. It is the result of conscious choices, collaboration, and a dream that is becoming reality step by step.
